How to install & uninstall Silicon Connector

Mac

Before installation, quit InDesign completely (don’t just minimize or hide the window).

Installation

Run the pkg installer file and follow the instructions. It will uninstall the previous version and replace it with the new version.

If the installer shows that the installation failed, check your desktop for a file called <Connector Name>_installerlog.txt. For example, SiliconConnectorForBoxCC_installerlog.txt. This file can help us troubleshoot what went wrong during the installation. Contact the support contact for your version of Connector and include the installer log file.

Uninstallation

If you are removing Silicon Connector permanently, remember to deactivate your license prior to uninstalling it.

Remove the Connector extension folder in /Library/Application Support/Adobe/CEP/extensions/

Note: This is in the System Library folder, not the user Library folder.

Remove the Connector plug-in folder in /Applications/Adobe InDesign CC 2018/Plug-Ins/, for example /Applications/Adobe InDesign 2021/Plug-Ins/SiliconConnectorBox.

There are some preference files that can be removed as well. You can delete /Users/username/Library/Preferences/SiliconConnector but be aware, this will remove preferences for any Silicon Connector you have installed, including licensing information.

Silicon Connector will use a folder in your Documents folder for local caching of thumbnails and some other files. You can delete it as well. For example, Silicon Connector for Box will create a folder called box_connector_files

Windows

Installation

Before installing, exit any Adobe CC apps and uninstall any previous versions of Connector using the Programs and Features section of the Windows Control Panel. After you’ve uninstalled the old version, start the installer program (.exe file) and follow the on-screen instructions.

Uninstallation

If you are removing Silicon Connector permanently, remember to deactivate your license prior to uninstalling it.

Use the Windows Control Panel to uninstall Connector. Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features > Uninstall a Program and uninstall Connector.

Technical note: Even on a 64-bit Windows system, CC extensions typically go in the Program Files (x86) directory. This is because CEP, the Adobe framework for creating CC extensions, relies on a 32-bit version of the Chromium Embedded Framework (CEF).

After Installing

After any new Connector installation, it is best practice to reset your InDesign preferences. To do this, hold down Control-Command-Option-Shift (Mac OS) or Ctrl-Alt-Shift (Windows) immediately as you start InDesign. If you got the keys held down in time, you will see an alert asking if you want to clear InDesign’s preferences. You do, so click the Yes button.

Opening Connector in InDesign CC

You can open Silicon Connector by choosing Window > Extensions and selecting the Silicon Connector you have installed.

It should automatically open the authentication window if authentication is required. if not, you should find an option to do so in the Connector extension panel flyout menu.
